NEDA XI Regional Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim discussed Agribusiness Opportunities in Mindanao during the Mindanao Talks webinar hosted by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) on July 25, 2022 via Zoom.

Mindanao Talks is a series of webinars organized by the ECCP aimed at expanding the knowledge and comprehension of business communities on various topics. The July 25 leg of the webinar series focused on “Innovation of Agribusiness for Rural Economy Development” which aims to provide farmers and the business community with information and strategies to compete and remain viable in the global marketplace.

Director Lim gave an overview of Mindanao’s economic performance, infrastructure projects, enabling laws, and prospects. Moving forward, she highlighted the importance of research and development, innovation, digitalization, and climate change adaptation towards achieving a resilient and globally-competitive agribusiness sector.    Moreover, Director Lim emphasized that investments in human capital is key to improving agricultural labor productivity, emphasizing that government, particularly TESDA and DA, need to level-up the capacity-building activities afforded to farmers and fisherfolk.

Other speakers during the webinar were Director Carlene Collado of the Department of Agriculture-Region X who discussed Smart Farming: The Future of Agribusiness and Mr. Giacomo Casari of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations who covered the topic on Scaling up inclusive digitalization in agricultural value chains.  The event was moderated by ECCP-Southern Mindanao Business Council Chairperson Antonio Peralta.
