(DAVAO CITY, December 28) National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Davao Regional Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim presented the overview of Region XI’s economic performance in 2022 and the development prospects for 2023 during the 2022 year-end presser of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Davao on December 28, 2022, 2:00PM, at the NEDA-RDC XI Conference Hall in Bangkal, Davao City.
“This year , Davao Region was able to showcase its resilience against the pandemic and economic shocks as it scaled up its recovery in broad areas of the economy,” said RD Lim. She highlighted the Region’s accomplishments on various sectors such as employment, investment and MSMEs, health, education, social protection, public order and safety, and infrastructure.
RD Lim also presented Davao Region’s major drivers of investments in 2023 which is expected to further boost the Region’s economy, namely: (1) declaration of Davao Region as a Tourism and Investment-Ready Destination following its insurgency-free status, (2) Davao Region’s prospects on becoming an international logistics hub given its strategic location as an international trade gateway to Asian trading markets, and (3) strengthened local public-private partnerships (PPPs). She added that MSMEs are expected to fully recover and thrive given that it is one of the top priorities of the Marcos Jr.’s Administration, recognizing the sector’s role in post-pandemic economic regeneration, job creation and poverty reduction.
The Region’s major infrastructure projects that will be continuously implemented in 2023 include the Davao City Coastal Road, Davao City Bypass Construction, Davao City Expressway, Samal Island-Davao City Connector, Davao International Airport Modernization, Mindanao Railway, and Davao Public Transport Modernization.
RD Lim also presented a summary of the Davao Region Development Plan (DRDP), 2023-2028 which aims to bring about economic transformation for a prosperous, inclusive and resilient society in Davao Region. She emphasized that the strategies of the successor plan will focus on developing and protecting the capabilities of individuals and families, and on transforming the production sectors to generate more quality jobs and competitive products.
During the said press conference, Director Lim was joined by Director Maria Belenda Q. Ambi of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) XI, Director Abel James I. Monteagudo of the Department of Agriculture (DA) XI, and Lt Col Nasser Deocampo Arojo of Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division.
