NEDA XI Briefs US Embassy Officials
on the Davao Region Economy

US Deputy Economic Counselor Timothy Neely recently visited Davao City and called on NEDA XI Regional Director Nicasio Angelo J. Agustin for a briefing on the economic situation, role, prospects and challenges of the Davao Region in the broader context of the Mindanao economy.

Director Agustin bared that Mr. Neely was interested to learn more about the region’s economy so that he can properly advise the American people on the kind of support and investments that the region needs.

In his briefing, Director Agustin cited the factors that contribute to the growth of the Davao region economy.  These are good weather condition, stable peace and order, rich natural resources, highly skilled labor force, efficient financial institutions, connectivity to the global economy, better educational and health facilities, and improving infrastructure facilities, among others.  He stressed to Mr. Neely that the services sector is the leading contributor to the region’s economic output.  In terms of employment, Agustin added that almost 90 percent of the region’s workers are in the services and agriculture sectors.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS (LGUS), NATIONAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES (NGAS), STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES (SUCS), PRIVATE PEOPLE’S ORGANIZATION CAN AVAIL OF THE NEDA KR2 PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

The NEDA-KR2 Productivity Enhancement Project can provide funding support to community agri-based activities than aim to enhance productivity and increase rural income of underprivileged farmers, augmenting national resources available for such activities in the process.

The activities to be supported under the Project are catalytic in nature, and essentially are applications of best practices, pilot testing of new techniques/processes/ procedures, prototyping or applications of new products or technologies, as well as innovative value-formation initiatives leading to enhanced productivity. These activities will also be complementary and closely aligned or linked to national and local government economic and social programs for replication, thereby contributing to the achievement of the government’s envisioned development goals.

Proponents are given the flexibility in terms of the component/s of the proposal.
